How wrong this can be
Worth reading before you act on a date from this site.
revu predicts a date. A tool that predicts things and does not publish its failure modes is asking to be believed more than it deserves.
The forecast is switched off when the numbers disagree
Two figures have to match: our own count of the reviews inside your twelve-month window, and the count Etsy publishes for your shop. When they differ by more than a couple, no date is shown at all and the panel says so instead.
They differ for ordinary reasons:
- A review was deleted, or a buyer edited theirs after leaving it.
- A listing went inactive, and reviews attached to it are counted differently.
- The edge of the window moved while we were reading, so we and Etsy are looking at slightly different days.
- Your shop has more reviews than we are willing to page through in one pass.
None of those mean anything is wrong with your shop. They mean we cannot honestly say which review leaves next, so we do not.
The exact day may be off by one
Etsy does not publish where the window boundary falls — whether it is midnight, the exact timestamp, or the shop's local time. We treat a review as leaving on the anniversary of the second it was created, in UTC. If the real boundary is a few hours either side, a date here can be a day out. Plan around the week, not the hour.
"In the past year" is Etsy's phrase, not our measurement
We take twelve months from Etsy's own description of the field. We have not independently proven the window is exactly 365 days, and Etsy could change it without telling anybody. If it did, every date on this site would be wrong until we noticed. The reconciliation check above is what would catch that — it would start failing.
The average is published rounded
Etsy hands over an already-rounded average. Working backwards to a rating total from it is lossy, so "how many more five-star reviews" is exact when we have a reconciled count of your window and an approximation otherwise. Where it is an approximation, the panel says give or take.
It cannot see anything private
No orders, no revenue, no drafts, no messages, no unpublished reviews. revu never connects to your Etsy account and holds no token for it. Everything here is what any shopper can see on your shop page, read once a day and turned into arithmetic.
It cannot tell you why
A rating that falls has a cause — a slow month for postage, a batch that shipped badly, one difficult customer. revu knows the number and the calendar. It will not guess at the reason, and you should distrust anything that does.
